Unknown Artist, possibly T. Metcalf, View of Pittsburg [Pittsburgh], 1867, pencil on paper, titled lower center 8.5 x 12.5 inches, matted and framed 16 x 20 inches. The name Metcalf is written on the back of the frame and T. Metcalf, Dedham, Massachusetts, 1867 is written twice in pencil on the back of the frame. Drawn from the famous engraving made by Albert Graham after Godfrey Frankenstein's painting that was first published in Graham's Magazine in 1847; TOGETHER WITH an undated 19th century version of the Frankenstein print, framed 6 x 10 inches. Provenance: The personal collection of Gary S. Grimes, Pittsburgh. Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level painters.
In good condition with areas of browning and light soil; edges of the sheet mounted to the mat; small print in fair condition, faded and foxed.
