Theis (Austrian, 20th century), Fauststadt, Salzburg, Austria, c.1938, painting on metal, signed, dated and titled on the back of the frame, signature appears to read Illisi or Misi Theis, there is another illegible label on back of frame as well and AUSTRIA written on back of metal panel in blue, 8.75 x 6 inches, in a period wood frame 11.5 x 9 inches. The image shows the set design in an open-air theatre for a performance Fauststadt (Faust Town), which was first put on in the Salzburg Festival in 1933.
