Two 19th Century Coromandel lacquer four-panel room screens, likely Southern Chinese, 19th century. Kuan Kai scenes depicting flora and fauna on one side and domestic scenes on the other. Panels held together by hammered wrought iron hinges. Apparently unsigned. Each panel is 84 x 16 x 1 inch. Provenance: The screens came from the original Pittsburgh Club. The Club purchased the Schoenberger mansion on Penn Avenue at The Point in 1884. When the Schoenberger mansion/Club was razed in 1942 to make way for The Gateway Towers, The Club moved to The William Penn Hotel. The Club later merged with the HYP Club in 1997. These screens came from the Schoenberger mansion and were placed in the Ladies Dining Rooms both locations - The Point and William Penn Hotel. The Creighton family purchased the screens from The Club in the 1970s.
