Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level and Hudson River painters. Jasper Lawman was a contemporary of George Hetzel and the other Scalp Level School artists. His paintings are held by the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Greensburg, PA, among other institutions. However, they rarely turn up on the market.
