Byrd, Richard E. and Wilfred Grenfell and William Herbert Hobbs, Lot of 3 Arctic Narratives, each one signed and inscribed by the author to Gilbert or Edwin Grosvenor: Byrd, Little America, 1930, first edition, hardcover, blue cloth, 9.5 x 6.5 inches ; Hobbs, Peary, 1936, first edition, hardcover, blue cloth; Grenfell, Labrador, 1913, new edition, hardcover, illustrated blue cloth. Grosvenor family bookplate to front pastedown of Byrd. Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor was the first full-time employee of the National Geographic Society and Alexander Graham Bell's son-in-law. He was the editor of National Geographic Magazine from 1899-1954 and the President of the National Geographic Society from 1920-1954. His father, Edwin, was chairman of the history department at Amherst College and president of the Phi Beta Kappa societies in the early 20th century. Provenance: from the estate of a direct descendent of Gilbert Grosvenor, Western PA. In generally good condition; clean contents and sound bindings, light shelfwear; Grenfell with private library marks (likely the National Geographic Society) to spine, title page and rear pastedown.
