The fifth earliest Josef Albers one man show in America to have printed a catalog; 2. Toko Shinoda, Sumi Paintings, 1965, Betty Parsons Gallery, New York City. Rare exhibition catalog for Shinoda's first one-woman show in New York. An early example of the Asian take on Abstract Expressionism. Softcover, staple-bound wraps. 10.25 x 8.25 inches. Photo of Shinoda + 4 illustrations. Red chop stamp on rear cover; 3. Four Paris Painters: Jean Dubuffet, Jaroslav Serpan, Kumi Sugai and Zao Wou-Ki (aka Zao Wouki). 1958, Kootz Gallery, New York City, softcover, 8.25 x 5.25 inches. 4 pages, with one black and white illustration for each artist. Although not stated, it's likely that the covers were designed by Elaine Lustig Cohen, as she did a number of other designs for Kootz during the same time period; 4. 14 Painter-Printmakers, 1955, Brooklyn Museum. The 14 artists chosen for this exhibition were: Will Barnet, Minna Citron, Worden Day, Perle Fine, Sue Fuller, Jan Gelb, Boris Margo, Alice Trumbull Mason, Seong Moy, Gabor Peterdi, Louis Schanker, Karl Schrag, Kurt Seligmann and John von Wicht. The lineup was heavily influenced by the Atelier 17 and Kraushaar Galleries rosters. Perhaps more notable, though, is that 6 of the 14 artists selected were women. Illustrated throughout in black and white. Each of the artists has 2 illustrations in the catalog - one showing a painting and one showing a print. Softcover, 11 x 8.5 inches; ALSO WITH Pair of books by Giorgio Lucini about the Italian artist Antonio Calderara. Both are titled Racconto di Un Pittore and published by Galleria Levi, Milano (Milan), Italy. 1969. Taller book (with picture of Calderara on the front) is 5 x 3.5 inches. The other book is 4.25 inches square and is sort of a flip book that's made up of a series of die-cut sheets with Calderara's portrait in the middle. In generally good condition, some light creasing and edgewear; Painters-Printmakers with a bit heavier instances of age and use.
