Jackson, A. Y. (Alexander Young) (Canadian, 1882-1974), Madawaska River, 1961, oil on wood panel, signed lower right and titled, dated and signed on the verso, 10.5 x 13.5 inches, framed 18.5 x 21.5 inches. Jackson studied in Chicago and Paris in the early 20th century, before becoming one of the founding members of The Group of Seven. The Madawaska River, a tributary of the Ottawa River, was one of Jackson's favorite settings to paint. Provenance: The Art Lenders, Montreal (label attached to the back of the frame); Reginald C. Harvey, Western PA; by descent to the present owner.
In good condition. UV light examination shows no evidence of damage, repair or inpainting. In some spaces, there are fine lines in the paint, but this appears to be a natural result of the wood grain. The wood panel is visible in several areas, but again, this also appears to be original. Merchandise will be packed and transported by the purchaser at their own risk and expense. A list of recommended shippers is on our website: https://www.conceptgallery.com/auctions/shipping/ .
