Gorson, Aaron Harry (Lithuanian/ American, 1872-1933), Twilight Industrial on The Monongahela River, oil on canvas, relined, signed lower right, 34 x 42 inches, framed 43 x 50.5 inches. Exhibited in The Carnegie Museum of Art 1967 Exhibition 'Aaron H. Gorson' with label on the back of the frame. A classic Aaron Gorson twilight industrial landscape influenced by J. A. M. Whistler. Provenance: The Estate of Karen B. and Donald W. Shaffer, Pittsburgh, PA.
In good condition, laid down on a second canvas with areas of impasto intact; stable crazing in the upper section. Blacklight inspection reveals small areas of inpainting at and around the smokestack on the left. There's also a tiny bit of touching up in the top edge of the upper left corner.
