Albers, after Anni and Gunta Stolzl, Pair of Prints showing Weavings, 1929, heliotype (or collotype) on wove paper, plate numbers 19 and 28 from Tapis et Tissus a portfolio edited by Sonia Delaunay and published by Charles Moreau in Paris, sheet size is 9.75 x 12.75 inches, unframed. Stolzl's shows 2 weavings. She is erroneously identified as Stobel, but it does correctly list her location as the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. Albers' shows one of her most famous weavings alongside another piece by Elisabeth Hablik Lindemann. Like Stolzl, her location is identified as the Bauhaus in Dessau. "Tapis et Tissus" was issued as number 15 in Moreau's legendary l'Art International d'Aujour d'Hui series that showcased the cutting edge decorative designs of the time. The illustrated portfolios were used to showcase everything in haute couture from carpets and fabrics to interior design. Gunta Stolzl was a German textile artist who transitioned the Bauhaus Weaving Workshop away from industrial design and toward a personal, artistic practice. Nearly all of her textile designs are in museums, and it's very rare to find anything related to her at all from her time at the Bauhaus. Similarly, this is one of the few contemporary images of Anni Albers' work that was printed while she was at the Bauhaus. ALSO WITH a third plate from the portfolio showing textile designs by Maria Likarz-Strauss and Maria Likarz-Strauss of Wiener Werkstatte. In good condition; sheet lightly age toned; minimal edge and corner wear; unmarked. Merchandise will be packed and transported by the purchaser at their own risk and expense.
