Outsider artist Anthony De Bernardin was an Italian immigrant who settled in the Pittsburgh area and ran a variety store. Gomez writes, "De Bernardin’s works are marked by quirky details that appeal to postmodern ironists, like hand-drawn phrases that label certain parts of each image.
