Vaiksnoras, Anthony (American/Cleveland, 1918-1973), Auberville - France '45, oil on board, 1946, signed and dated lower right, 14 x 22 inches, in a contemporary wood frame 20 x 28 inches. This painting was submitted to the Fifth Annual Audubon Artists Exhibition in New York City in 1946, with the original tag included. Vaiksnoras was born in Central PA and lived most of his life in Cleveland. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II, and this painting, showing expressionless figures in a French village, was painted shortly after the end of the war. One of his best and earliest works to turn up at auction.
