Menten, attributed to Maud Leonora (Canadian/Pittsburgh), Still Life with Pears on Blanket, c.1940s, oil on canvas, signed M. L. Menten lower left, 16 x 20 inches, in a wood frame. Maud Menten was born in Canada and was one of the first women in that country to obtain a medical doctorate. She moved to Pittsburgh in 1923 to be a professor in the School of Medicine, and then she was promoted to head of pathology at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Many of her biographies refer to her painting ability, in addition to her extraordinary skills in medicine.
