Phillips, Barry (American, 1939-2020), Flying Machine from the Odin Series, late 20th century, welded metal, bronze, wood, glass, and fabric sculpture. Apparently unsigned. Approximately 41 x 14.5 x 15 inches. Barry Phillips was the chair of the art department at Odessa College and the founder of BRAG Publications, a non-profit exhibition space for contemporary art. In the 1980s, he began working on his signature flying machines from the Odin's Odysseys series. The machines, which are commanded by a mythological god, are intended as a satirical protest against the pyramidical structure of cultural institutions.
