Smith, Carl Richard, aka Dingbat or Bat (American/Pittsburgh, 1927-1989), Abstract Wave, 1978, assemblage of nails on a wood panel, signed and dated on the back, 8 x 12 inches. Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist via Manchester Craftsmen's Guild, Pittsburgh, PA. A Pittsburgh native, Smith worked in sculpture using only nails from the 1960s through the late 1980s. Two examples of his nail art are in the permanent collection of The Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African-American Art. In good condition, missing 3 nails.
