Setterberg AWS, Carl Georg (American, New York/Colorado/California 1897-1983), Main Street Route 9 New York, circa 1955, watercolor, 20.75 x 27.5 inches, signed lower right and inscribed AWS, framed measuring 31 x 39 inches, from Falk's Who's Who in American Art: A painter and magazine illustrator, Carl Setterberg was born in Las Animas, Colorado. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the American Academy of Fine Arts and the Grand Central Art School in New York. He became an illustration artist in the West for the United States Air Force, which included portraits of personnel at the Air Force Academy. In New York, he was a member of the Society of Illustrators, the American Watercolor Society, and the Salmagundi Club, and in 1962 was elected a full member of the National Academy of Design. His magazine illustrations included work for McCalls, Colliers, Women's Home Companion and Redbook.
