van Vechten, Carl (American, 1880-1964), Portrait of Marc Chagall, image taken July 4, 1941, but this likely printed in the late 1950s or early 1960s, silver gelatin photograph print, with van Vechten's studio stamp and the subject, negative and print information (XXI.V.16) and date handwritten on verso (possibly by his assistant Saul Mauriber, full sheet 13.25 x 8.5 inches, printed to the edges, matted and in a metal frame 20.5 x 16.5 inches, no glass. Provenance: from the collection of the Philadelphia based art and book dealer Michael Kam.
