Le Clair, Charles George (American/Missouri/Pittsburgh, PA, 1914-2007), Abstracted Venice Scene, 1955, oil on canvas, signed and dated at upper right. 21 x 34 inch canvas, in a 23.5 x 36.5 inch gold tone frame. Le Clair attended the University of Wisconsin, Academy Ranson, and Columbia University. He was an Associate Professor of Painting at Chatham College, and was the Dean at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University (1960-1974). He exhibited widely, including but not limited to the Whitney Museum of American Art; International Watercolor Exhibit at Brooklyn Museum; National Academy of Design; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters; and Villanova University. He won many awards, including from the Associate Artists of Pittsburgh, the Ford Foundation Fellowship in Advanced Education, and the Pennell Memorial Award. Examples of Le Clair's work can be found in many public and private collections.
