Bayard, Clifford Adams (American/Pennsylvania/Vermont, 1892-1965) Vermont Scene with Mill, oil on canvas, early to mid 20th century, depicting a Vermont scene with mill and footbridge in Summer, signed lower right, 22.25 x 26.25 inches, in a period gilt composition frame under glass, 27 x 31 inches. Clifford Adams Bayard was an American artist born in McKeesport, PA. He graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh in 1917, and became a professor there after having been sent by the American Red Cross to Angers, France, to document life at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School Hospital. He traveled and worked throughout Europe before settling in Vermont in 1931, where he spent the rest of his life painting and teaching. He has shown in numerous exhibitions throughout the Northeastern US.
Condition
In good condition, apart from some hairline cracking at lower left and center. Frame with some loss and repairs throughout. Unexamined out of the frame.
