McDonald, Edward Dixon (American/Cleveland, OH, 1890-1950), Bessimer Pouring-American Steel and Wire Co., 1931, watercolor and gouache on board, signed and dated lower right, titled on the artist's label affixed to the verso, 21 x 14 inches, in a green wood frame 23 x 16.5 inches. McDonald was a prominent illustration and architectural artist who twice won medals in the Prix de Rome competitions. A WPA era interior manufacturing scene. The American Steel and Wire Company, founded in 1899, occupied 300 acres in Donora and became part of the United States Steel Corporation in 1900.
Condition
In generally good condition; old dampstaining at the bottom edge of the verso that is barely noticeable on the front.
