Elisofon, Eliot (American, 1911-1973), Kubanyim Mbopey Mabiintsh ma-Kyeen, (King of the Kuba people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who ruled from 1939 to 1969), circa 1947, vintage gelatin silver print, 7.75 x 7.5 inches, with Life Photo Eliot Elisofon stamp, P. Pollack photo, and in red ink signed by the artist, This photo is example of an Ndop, a type of Kuba royal sculpture representing the ruler's portrait. Photographer Eliot Elisofon took a famous photograph of the king in his coronation regalia in 1947.
