Linwood, Circle of Miss Mary (British, 1755-1846), Fruit Still Life with Squirrel, embroidery, 19 x 22 inches oval, in a gilded oval shaped frame 22.5 x 25 inches. In 1809 embroiderer Mary Linwood opened a gallery in Leicester Square, London, the first one run by a woman in the capital. It featured her full-scale textile copies of paintings by popular British artists such as Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough, and George Morland, among others. The gallery, which remained open for thirty-six years, was a must-see destination in London, visited by multiple generations of the British royal family.

Small areas of restoration, otherwise in good condition unexamined outside of the frame. Merchandise will be packed and transported by the purchaser at their own risk and expense. A list of recommended shippers is on our website: https://www.conceptgallery.com/auctions/shipping/ .
