Fong Chung-Ray (Chinese, b. 1934), Untitled Beige and Black Abstraction, watercolor and wash drawing, 21.5 x 35.5 inches, signed and stamped lower left, framed measuring 29 x 43 inches, Fong Chung-Ray was born in Henan, but relocated to Taiwan in 1949. There he joined the Fifth Moon Group of artists who sought a 'modern Chinese style of painting without parting from their cultural tradition'. The artist's abstract works were well received with solo exhibitions at the National Taiwan Art Center, 1965, and the National Museum of History, 1974, and more recently at Galerie du Monde, Hong Kong, 2015, Chinese Cultural Foundation of San Francisco, California 2014, and Silicon Valley Asian Art Center, Santa Clara, California, 2013. Recent group exhibitions include The Weight of Lightness: Ink Art at M+, Hong Kong 2017 and From China to Taiwan-Pioneers of Abstraction (1955-1985). The artist currently resides in San Francisco.
