Trapp, Frank Anderson (American, 1922-2005), Europa and the Bull, 1959, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left, additionally signed and titled on a label with his Amherst College address affixed to the stretcher, 24 x 36 inches, unframed. From his surreal and stylized period. Trapp received a B.A. from Carnegie Institute of Technology and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. A faculty member at Williams College for five years, Trapp came to Amherst College in 1956 and worked here until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure at Amherst, he served as rotating chairman of the Fine Arts Department and was the director of the Mead Art Museum for 20 years.
