Mitchell, Joan (American, 1925-1992), Sam Francis (American, 1923-1994) and Walasse Ting (Chinese/American, 1929-2010), Fresh Air School Portfolio, 1972, complete with 3 original color lithographs-one by each of the artists, this is number 28 of 30 sets signed by each artist; Francis and Ting signed and numbered directly on their lithos, and Mitchell's is signed in ink at the header of her text section, rather than on the litho. All are double-page and measure 15 x 22 inches. Published by the Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh; color lithos printed by Maeght, Paris; introductory text by the museum's director Leon A. Arkus. The portfolio is complete, including text sections and many black and white illustrations, all housed in the original blue covers; pages loose, as issued. One of only 30 signed sets of this portfolio that Arkus set aside for friends of the museum. Provenance: from the estate of Leon and Jane Arkus. Leon was the Director of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, from 1969 to 1980.
