G. A. Dentzel Stander Carousel Horse, 1885-1890, American, Philadelphia, PA. Gustav Dentzel opened G. A. Dentzel Steam and Horse Power Carousel Company in 1867. Highly carved wooden carousel horse with glass eyes and horse hair tail. Remnants of original paint throughout. 63 x 63 x 12 inches. Provenance: Personal collection of Edward J. Grzybowski, co-owner of Tri-State Antiques in Canonsburg, PA. Ed was well known and respected in the field for his vast knowledge of antiques and decorative arts, particularly 20th century design.
Age and usage related paint loss and wear. Much of the tail is missing. A portion of the chest is missing, and a piece of it is broken off. Small portion of neck is missing. Significant wear to one hoof. Abrasions and accretions throughout. Merchandise will be packed and transported by the purchaser at their own risk and expense.
