Hetzel, George T. (American, Western PA, 1846-1912), Shady Grove Near Creek, 1896, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left, framed measuring 19 x 28 inches, Provenance: The Hetzel Kantner Family Ligonier, George T. Hetzel (1846-1912). Son of Christian Hetzel and nephew of George Hetzel, Pittsburgh's best known 19th century painter, George T. was raised in the Spring Hill section of Pittsburgh and was at one point the deputy recorder for Allegheny County in western Pennsylvania. His art works include landscapes done in oil and are usually signed G. T. Hetzel. His works are often confused with his uncle, George Hetzel.
In good condition with a light layer of surface dirt and a small scratch to the canvas just to the left of the center.
