O'Beil, Hedy (aka Henrietta Gersten-Liebowitz) (American/New York City, 1928-2022), Two Birds, 1995, oil monoprint on paper, signed, dated and titled on the back of the frame by her estate, image size 10 x 12 inches, matted and framed 18.5 x 22.5 inches. O'Beil was a well known NYC based second generation Abstract Expressionist painter. She was a two time recipient of the Jackson Pollock – Lee Krasner International Foundation grant for her paintings, in 2009 and again in 2014, and had a piece in the 1986 show Costumes, Masks and Disguises at MoMA PS1. Hedy had over 80 solo and group art exhibits during her career, including exhibits at the Westbeth Gallery, NYC, Philadelphia Art Museum, Guild Hall, L.I., Susquehanna Art Museum, Harrisburg, and the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh. She studied at several highly regarded art schools, including the Brooklyn Museum Art School, with Reuben Tam, the Westbury Art School in NY, with Harry Sternberg, the Skowhegan School of Art, in Maine, the Art Students League in NY, with Ernest Fiene and Harry Sternberg, and the Traphagen School of Art in NYC, and received her Master’s degree from Goddard College in Montpelier, Vermont.
