Bursztynowicz, Henry (American/Pittsburgh, 1922-2001), Cascade-Seated Overhanging (Folded Slab Number 29), circa 1980, polished and carved travertine marble, 48 x 28 x 12 inches, a rare sculpture form that sits and overhangs the pedestal or whatever support it is placed upon, Provenance: The Estate of Henry Bursztynowicz, Bursztynowicz was a regional Western Pennsylvania sculptor working around the height of the abstract expressionist movement. Bursztynowicz received his education from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and Instituto del Arte, Florence, Italy. He was a faculty member at the University of Missouri and he taught at Pittsburgh Arts and Crafts Center (now Pittsburgh Center for the Arts). Pittsburgh Center for the Arts honored Henry Bursztynowicz with a retrospective of his works in 2009.
