Koerner, Henry (Austrian/American/Pittsburgh, 1915-1991), Study Drawing for The Tie, 1947, Prisma pencil on paper, signed, titled and dated lower left, label on reverse, additionally inscribed on the reverse from Koerner's widow, Joan, to Charles 'Chuck' Booth, 20.5 x 15.5 inches, matted and framed 27 x 22 inches. According to an article in the February 21, 1949 issue of Time, the finished painting showed "an ugly, starkly naked young couple stood back to back in a puddle, holding hands as if against their will, staring dazedly into the encroaching darkness. Draped around the husband's weary neck hung a tie decorated with a pin-up girl." Provenance: The Estate of Charles H. Booth Jr., New Kensington, PA.
