Artists Equity Association, Improvisations II, 1951, first edition, number 1901 of 2000 copies, with 55 original lithographs, including 51 single page prints - black images on different color papers - plus the front and rear covers which are in color and have an image on both sides of the page, softcover, comb (spiral) binding, 12 x 9.25 inches. The artists include some of the major mid century American artists: Milton Avery, Adolf Dehn, Antonio Frasconi, Chaim Gross, Robert Gwathmey, Hans Hofmann, Leon Kroll, Reginald Marsh, George L. K. Morris, Ben Shahn (who did the rear cover), Raphael Soyer, Marcel Vertes, Max Weber, Leo Lionni, Julio de Diego, Betty Kathe, Samuel Adler, Harry Gottlieb and others. Apparently missing 2 plates, as there are 57 artists listed in the table of contents. We're not sure which two are missing, but the lithos by all of the artists named above are present.
In fair to good condition, lithos are clean and unmarked; the front cover is fully detached from the comb binding, and is chipped and torn at the corners and bottom edge; the rear cover has some light edgewear; the comb binding is secure but has 2 cracks; still the binding is secure and you can flip through all of the pages.
