Clesinger, After Jean-Baptiste Auguste (French, 1814-1883), Greek Figure with Instrument, either Sappho or the Muse Erato, patinated bronze, 17.5 inches tall, base 5.5 inch diameter, c. late 19th century, Clesinger's name incised on lower rim, emblem of the famous A. Collas Reduction Mechanique stamped on base between the figure's feet, figure with laurel wreath, kithara/lyre instrument, long beautifully rendered drapery and figure with thoughtful downward gaze.
