Kershaw, John Karl (Jack), (American 1913-2010) Untitled Abstraction, ink and ink wash drawing, 9.5 x 6.75 inches, signed lower right, framed measuring 15.5 x 12 inches. Kershaw studied art at Vanderbilt University and in the 1920s became associated with a group of intellectuals who called themselves The Fugitive Poets. In the 1930s, he worked as Federal director of the Tennessee Art Project (a job in which he worked as one of William Edmondson's supervisors) and was in charge of plates and research for another Federal art project, the National Index of Design, in Middle Tennessee. Later in his life his politics took a sharp right turn and he became a neo-Confederate and MLK assasination conspiracy theorist.
