Gould, after John (British, 1804-1881), Green-headed Emerald Hummingbird, (Thaumatias Viridiceps), (from Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Hummingbirds), 1849 and 1887, lithograph with hand-finished color, 20 x 13.5 inches, (sight size), Family of Hummingbirds undoubtedly featured some of Goulds most desired plates. Of particular note was the use of gold and silver leaf to create the appearance of the natural iridescence of the hummingbirds feathers. The birds are also featured amidst intricately drawn fauna that accentuates the beauty of the composition. framed in a gilded frame with hand made beautifully complementary French mat measuring 34.5 x 28 inches.
