Lie, Jonas (Norwegian/American, 1880-1940), Town and River in Winter, 1923, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, 30 x 40 inches, in a gilt wood frame 35 x 45 inches. Provenance: Ainslie Galleries, NYC, with old label affixed to the stretcher. Ainslie Gallery had a one man show of Lie's work in April of 1923. The catalog for that show lists the picturesque titles of 30 paintings (Rockbound Coast, Sunlit Shore, Silver Morn, etc.) and illustrates 3 of them, but does not include dimensions or any specifics of the other works.
