The Movimiento Espartaco (translated as the Spartacus Movement) ran from 1959 to 1968 and was named in homage to the Spartacus League, a German labor movement of Marxist origin led by Rosa Luxemburg. It was founded by a young group of Argentinian artists who wanted to mix traditional methods with critical, avant-garde imagery.
