Callahan is one of the most important 20th century painters to come from the Pacific Northwest. Exhibited: Art: USA: 59, New York Coliseum, April, 1959, where it was lent by the Maynard Walker Gallery, original exhibition label taped to the back of the frame (plus see scan from catalog, last photo). Provenance: The personal collection of Gary S. Grimes, Pittsburgh. Gary was an expert on Western Pennsylvania art, and especially the Scalp Level painters.
