Lieb, Leonard (Polish/American/Pittsburgh, 1912-1977), Worker on Break, 1940, oil on board, signed and dated lower left, 21.5 x 17.75 inches, unframed. An early and colorful WPA-esque scene showing a worker on top of Mount Washington taking a break with a view of downtown Pittsburgh and the point. Provenance: estate of the artist. Lieb was a student of Samuel Rosenberg and a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh for decades. He showed his work in nearly all of their exhibitions in the 1940s and 1950s and was the recipient of many of their awards during that time.
Condition
In fair to poor condition, with flaking throughout but heaviest in the central left section; loss to board at corners and edges; an overall layer of surface grime.
