Hetzel, Lila Barr (American/Western PA, 1873-1967), Old Petersburg Toll House, 1924, pastel on wove paper, titled, annotated (Somerset Co.) and dated lower right in red crayon, appears to be unsigned, also annotated in very light pencil to lower left, sheet size 15 x 12 inches, unframed. Provenance: gift from the artist to a close family friend. Lila Hetzel was born in Edgewood, Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of George Hetzel who founded the Scalp Level School. Built in 1835, The Petersburg Toll House, was on the National Road (Old Route 40) heading west into Pennsylvania.

Condition
