Pershing, Louise (American/Western PA, 1904-1986), The Flagpole, undated, oil on Masonite, signed lower right, 72 x 15 inches, in the artist's wood frame, tiny remnant of an old gallery label on the top of the back of the frame. Louise Pershing was born in 1904 and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Arts in Philadelphia. She later attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, where she studied under Alexander Kostellow and G. Romanoglie. Pershing also studied with the abstract expressionist Hans Hofmann. She was a member of the National Association of Women Artists, the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, and the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. In good condition, with some minor scratches and a layer of surface staining that's most visible in the lower quadrant.
