Fleurant, Louisiane Saint (Haitian, 1924-2005), Untitled Four Women, late 20th century, acrylic on canvas, signed at lower left. Depicting four women surrounded by stylized flora and fauna, with two women sitting on ladder back chairs. Canvas 30 x 40 inches, in a painted wooden 31.75 x 41.75 inch frame. Along with Prospere Pierre-Louis, Dieuseul Paul, Denis Smith, and Levoy Exil, Saint Fleurant formed the renowned Cinq Soleil (Five Suns) art movement. The Five Suns group formed out of the Saint Soleil movement, of which Louisiane was the only female artist. She is affectionately known as the godmother of the art movement. Her work has been exhibited in Asia, Europe, and the United States, and is part of both public and private collections including the National Gallery of Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum.
