Huse, Marion (American, 1896-1967), Pownal Valley, oil on canvas board, early 20th century, signed lower left, label at verso with title, artist name, and location. Canvas 9.5 x 11.75 inches, in decorated wooden frame 11.63 x 13.63 inches. Huse was born in Lynn, Massachusetts. She attended the New School of Design, the Carnegie Institute of Art and Technology in Pittsburgh, and studied painting with Charles Hawthorne at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown. In 1925, she founded the Springfield, Massachusetts School of Art, where she taught until 1940. Her work is included in the collections of the Fuller Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Condition

Some areas with paint loss, surface dirt, yellowed varnish, some cracking, craquelure. The frame is chipped in a few areas.
