Guyon, Maximilienne Goepp (French 1868 - 1903), The Farewell, watercolor and pencil, 17.25 x 10.25 inches, signed lower left, framed measuring 25 x 21.5 inches, Maximilienne Guyon was an award-winning painter, illustrator, and etcher. She exhibited often, primarily in France, and won numerous awards, receiving the traveling purse in 1894, the first woman to whom it was given. She was held in high regard as a teacher, instructing the Princess Mathilde (of Saxony), who in her own right became a talented artist.
Condition
in good condition apart from a fan shaped diagonal crease in the upper left and small spots of foxing around the perimeter of the figure.
