Kipp, Orval (American/Pennsylvania, 1904-1995) Russian Seminar, oil on board, 1976, depicting a grouping of gentleman, signed and dated at lower right, titled verso. Canvas board 30 x 24.75, in a stepped wooden frame 35.5 x 30.75 inches. Dr. Orval Kipp was a painter, educator, and printmaker. He received his BA from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University), his MA from Columbia Teachers College, and he earned his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1936, Orval Kipp was appointed as a faculty member in the Art Department at Indiana State Teachers College and later became chairman of the department. He exhibited extensively throughout Western PA and in Provincetown, MA. In 1971, the Kipp Gallery at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) was dedicated in his honor.

Condition

In overall good condition, apart from slightly warped canvas board, abrasions at right side. Frame with abrasions and accretions.
