The Words of the Preacher, Son of David, King of Jerusalem, illuminated by Owen Jones, 1849, First Edition, Longmans, London, 4to. (11.5 x 8 inches), in original "carved" wooden boards with leather spine by Remnant and Edmonds after a design by Jones, gilt dentelles, aeg, new endpapers, 16 leaves, title page and colophon, chromolithographed and illuminated in gold and colors, housed in custom velvet lined buckram clamshell slipcase. One of the premiere illuminated books, and most interesting bindings, of the Victorian period. According to Qauyle, the pattern was burnt into the wood under considerable pressure to create the carved appearance.
