Freas, Frank Kelly (American, 1922-2005), Pair of Drawings: 1. Riverboat on the Allegheny River, Pittsburgh, 1946, pencil on paper, signed and dated (Sept. 11, 1946) lower right, sheet 9 x 6.25 inches, two figures with a small boat in front of a larger passenger ship, with one of the famous Three Sisters bridges in the background / 2. Pittsburgh Industrial Scenes in four vignettes, undated, c. 1946, single sheet 11.5 x 9 inches, each initialed KF, includes images of trains, bridges, steps, river and incline -- all depicted with a smoky, coal-blackened sky. Both drawings were produced while attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in the late 1940s. Freas would go on to gain tremendous fame as an illustrator for Mad Magazine and countless Science Fiction projects. His first commercial cover art didn't appear until Weird Tales in November, 1950.
