Mene, Pierre Jules (French, 1810-1879), A Pair of Sculptures Showing a Boy, Large Dog and Snake, c. late 19th century, bronze, both signed along rim P.J. Mene. The first piece show the boy hiding behind his dog who his growling at an attacking snake. The second piece shows the boy embracing the dog in thanks, as the snake's head and body are on the ground in separate pieces. An emotional pair, celebrating the loyalty and fearlessness of dogs. Marbled bases included for both. Approx. weight 27 pounds for the two pieces (not including bases). Provenance: From the estate of Arthur B. de Saint Maurice, the great-grandson of the Hudson River School painter Regis Gignoux.
