Pair of neoclassical patinated candlesticks after Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875) mid to late 19th century. Medallion elements after the Greek Arethusa decadrachm coin. Openwork bases with flowering vine motifs. Stems with fluted elements. Stamped 'France' at undersides. Molded 'Barye' on the bases of each. A very similar example can be found in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Art. 10 x 4.5 inches.
