Pair of Robert Venturi for Knoll Chippendale Chairs, American, designed between 1978-1984, 1985-1986. Molded and black lacquered plywood frames with black leather seat cushions. Manufacturer's labels to undersides. The Chippendale Chair is one of a series of nine chairs in historical styles Venturi created for Knoll during the mid 1980s. The group served as a “manifesto of postmodern historicism,” their witty and humorous plywood forms referencing historical shapes and ornament. Approximately 37.5 x 23 x 19 inches. Literature: Out of the Ordinary, Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown and Associates: Architecture, Urbanism, Design, Brownlee, DeLong and Hiesinger, pg. 209. Provenance: Provenance: The Diana Jannetta Collection. Jannetta was an esteemed collector of decorative and fine arts, known for her discerning eye and dedication to preserving artistic excellence. A lifelong advocate for the arts, she assembled a distinguished collection featuring paintings, sculptures, and craft. Jannetta was a Trustee for the Houston Contemporary Art Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University Art Gallery, Westmoreland Museum of American Art, was Chairman of the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild, and sat on the board of countless other arts and culture organizations.
