2 Victorian Isle of Wight marmotinto/sand pictures, English, 19th century. Sand and watercolor paintings depicting Steephill Caste and Osborne House. Sand pictures became very popular from the 1840s on, with the Isle of Wight’s colorful Alum Bay sands providing an ideal medium. Many local craftsmen sold postcard-sized fixed sand pictures featuring the Isle of Wight's most popular views and monuments. Apparently unsigned. Images 4.5 x 7.25 inches, in wooden gilt frames 6.75 x 10 inches.
