Sand pictures became very popular from the 1840s on, with the Isle of Wight’s colorful Alum Bay sands providing an ideal medium. Many local craftsmen sold postcard-sized fixed sand pictures featuring the Isle of Wight's most popular views and monuments. Apparently unsigned. Images 4.5 x 7.25 inches, in wooden gilt frames 6.75 x 10 inches. Paper with age toning and foxing. One with staining at paper edge.
