Ludick, Paul (American, b.1957), Club Chair, 1991, cold rolled steel framed , solid birch arms, and replaced upholstery, 37 x 37.5 x 30 inches, fabricated for Furniture of the 20th Century, New York City. Newly reupholstered with fabric approved by Ludick, similar to the original custom fabric (sample included). Inspired by landscapes Ludick encountered during a backpacking trip into the Bob Marshall wilderness in Montana -- curves of meadows, streams, trails, forest edge, hills, and rock ledges. Ludick was part of the Art et Industrie movement, which began in the late 1970s. The movement challenged the concept of function vs. design in furniture making within the United States. Ludick exhibited at Art et Industrie, Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, and Magen H Gallery among others. His works are part of both private and public collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Museum of Art. Provenance: Acquired from the artist.
